Former corrections officials are still asking questions about the hiring, and firing practices, of Management and Training Corporation, that's the company that will start running the East Mississippi Correctional Facility this month.
Several applicants received letters during a training session saying they were no longer eligible for employment, and some believe that previous employment information was illegally obtained, and they've hired legal representation to look into the matter.
An MTC representative today denied those claims, saying they based their decisions strictly on typical background and reference checks.
"Why are they only excluding former GEO employees?" asks Sandra Williams,
"All [of the trainees] that walked out last Thursday was former GEO employees, with the same letter stating it was a background issue."
MTC could not confirm if all those who were terminated were former GEO employees, but again they deny any claim that confidential files from GEO were obtained.
