Murder Arrests

It was shortly after 5 PM Sunday when authorities were alerted about the shooting..

'The location is near some houses, so we had a call about it just almost immediately after it happened,' says Wayne County investigator, Kevin Stevens.

Once on the scene investigators say 32-year-old Willie Figures was discovered shot once. He was found sitting in the driver's seat with his vehicle still in drive and his foot on the brake.

Within less than 48 hours, Wayne County deputies arrested 18-year-old Karicus Lewis and 17-year-old Jamal Pou. Both are students at Wayne County High School.

'Right now both have been charged with capitol murder and armed robbery,' says Investigator Cynthia Terrel with the Wayne County Sheriff's Department. 'Bond was denied on the capitol murder charge and $50,000 bond was set for the armed robbery charge.'

An interesting thing about this case is that it happened in the Pleasant Grove Community on Matherville-Diamond Road, where the two suspects and the victim all lived. In fact, one of the suspects lives just yards away from where the discovery was made.

After the two arrests were made, Wayne County authorities retrieved the weapon that is thought to have been used. Investigators say the victim and two suspects knew each other and that robbery is thought to have been the motive.

'This case being solved was a result of the community feeding us information. A lot of support came from the community,' says Investigator Stevens.

At this time no other arrests are expected. As for the suspects' cases, they are expected to go before a grand jury June 25th. If indicted and their cases go to trial, both could face the death penalty
