No Charges Filed in Weekend Shooting

Authorities say no charges have been filed after a 23-year old man was shot and killed over the weekend.

The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department says Alex William Day was shot outside a family member's home in the ten thousand block of Woods Road around 10 a.m. Saturday.

Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun says Day was trying to break into the family member's home to see his child, despite a restraining order instructing him to stay away from the home.

Authorities say the owner shot Day when he tried to force his way inside.

"He has shown a propensity to violence in the past against family members," said Calhoun. "They were scared of him. The mother had the child and had custody of the child currently. And he was going to forcibly take the child. This is based off of the communication he had had with the family over the previous day or so."

Calhoun says, while no charges have been filed at this time, this case will be presented to the next grand jury.
