That's what you need in the county as well, the sheriff's department is just as worthless!!

As a local business owner, I am happy to see that Tim's business got the contract. I ALWAYS do business with local business owners - It keeps the money here - not sent to another state or another corporate office somewhere. Local businesses employ local people, thus less unemployment. It benefits us!! We should all be shopping at locally owned establishments and eating in locally owned restaurants!!
I do agree with the comments about the police NOT doing their jobs. I have been victimized by theft several times, and am less than impressed with the attitudes, follow-up (or lack thereof), and questionable intelligence of the officers.

Homeless shelter is not the responsibility of the City. Let the Churches and other organizations that want to provide this service fund it. It's not for the tax payers to do.

I'd take a homeless shelter over a cop shelter. Most of the cops are in what are essentially their own cars anyway. I bet if they took the money spent on those take-home cars they could pay a big portion of the bill for their new police station. What did Meridian do all those years without cops with city-donated cars, tax free at that?

Who needs police? Get a 12 gauge, a .45, and Clayton Cobler's phone number. You need a donut, call a cop.

I agree that it is not the city's responsibility to build homeless shelters, but at least the money DONATED would be seen working for the good of PEOPLE. Also, since you brought it up, it is the city's responsibility to provide a police force. An honest, responsible, dedicated, "Productive" one at that. Not a bunch of hooligans harassing citizens, and trying to pick-up every woman they pull over. We need real police!

What happened to the first man? Why didn't you just go forward with the project when he was around? You say that Meridian is spending a lot of money, but you have a million dollars to spend on a new police station. Why give some of that money to another organization?

I think the MAYOR should move her office to the police dept until one is finally constructed! Let the "QUEEN" and her followers work in the unsafe, and HOT conditions for a while. And we all know who the next Chief of Police will be. Its a given, it's not about experience...its about VOTES! Congratulations Chief Sharpe!

It is sad that our community has / is investing so much time and money in a dept that can't even solve crimes that are happening right in their faces. But will not donate a fraction of the money needed to keep a facility going that is actually helping unfortunate people. I can't wait to see what the next blockade will be that will stop the progress of the completion of this "Mega-Facility". Politics is something else in this town.
