It's been a whirlwind month for officials with the State Games, but it's been perhaps the best run and most successful games in the 21 year history of the event.

From the opening ceremonies in front of the newly renovated Meridian City Hall, to the near perfect weather, it's been a banner year according to officials.

"We're excited to have had all the athletes here in 2012," says Carolyn Smith with State Games, "and we're kind of excited to have it behind us this year."

When the State Games of Mississippi began in 1992, there were 1,200 athletes competing in 12 sports, by 2010, more than 5,000 athletes were competing in 29 different sports, and this year there were more than 30 events.
