5th-Annual Reconciliation Week Honors Lockheed Victims

Reconciliation Week began at 31st Avenue Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian on Sunday with a service to pray for the community and a memorial for the victims of the Lockheed Martin shootings.

"And we want to honor their memory by doing something positive and bringing the community together," Stacey Miller, daughter of the late Rev. Charlie Miller, says. "So we choose the theme of reconciliation for the week in order to bring the community together in honor of the memories of those that were lost."

"We expect a difference and a change in the lives of individuals in our city, county, state and nation as a result of this meeting," Rev. Samuel L. Thompson says.

The late Reverend Miller's wife, Jinnell Miller, says Reconciliation Week has grown since it was started five years ago. She tells us she's proud of that growth.

"It's hard to measure the good that we're actually doing," she says. "But you try and we see some progress."

Miller says part of that progress is the community actually gathering at a church for a service to honor the occasion, bringing her a sense fulfillment and accomplishment.

Reconciliation Week continues on Monday with free lemonade at Dumont Plaza in Meridian.
