More Rain!

The weather pattern has shifted in a way that favors rain for our area, and a pattern change that brings about an end to the rain will likely not occur until early next week. Low pressure in the middle of the atmosphere, or about 20,000 feet above sea level is helping to serve as magnet for deep moisture over the Lower Mississippi River Valley. Higher in the atmosphere, a low pressure trough at around 30-35,000 feet above sea level is sagging southward from the Upper Midwest and into the Southeast. This upper level low pressure trough will continue its southward migration and help to enhance upward motion in the atmosphere already present due to afternoon heating. Deep moisture and lift spells rain for us. Little overall motion is expected until Monday when the pattern becomes a little more progressive, and the upper level low pressure trough begins to slide to our east and allow some high pressure ridging to nose into our area early next week. That high pressure ridging could bring an end to the rain aside from typical pop-up summer showers and it could mean a return to warmer temperatures. Between now and then, though, it's showers and cooler temperatures.

The rain will take a break for most of us overnight. Under a partly cloudy sky the low will be near 73. The wind will be from the south at less than 5 mph. Tomorrow will be cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. The high will be near 90. The wind will be from the south/southwest at 5-10 mph. Wednesday will be cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. The morning low will be near 71. The afternoon high will be near 88. Thursday will be mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms. The morning low will be near 71. The afternoon high will be near 89. Friday will be partly cloudy with a few afternoon showers. The morning low will be near 67. The afternoon high will be near 88. Saturday will be partly cloudy.
