Home Salvaged Following Tuesday Fire

Shonda Yates of Meehan got news that all of us dread Tuesday morning, when she got word that smoke was coming out of the windows in her home.

No one was injured in the fire.

"Shortly after 10 AM we were paged out to a structure fire on Old Highway 80 West," explains County Fire Coordinator Allan Dover, "first arriving units found smoke coming from the structure."

"Everything we own is in that house, I just appreciate all the help of the fire department to save what they could," says the homeowner Yates.

Yates says she doesn't have insurance, so losing the home she shares with two of her children would have been a huge loss. A Good Samaritan played a part in getting the word out about the fire Tuesday.

"The mail lady came back up and said smoke was coming from my house," says Yates, "so we called the fire department and started throwing water through the window."

"We began an offensive attack, and were able to hold the fire to one bedroom and pretty much save the whole house," says Dover.

Shonda Yates is thankful for what fire crews were able to salvage, and once they clear the scene, she'll have a better idea of what she's lost, and what was saved.
