Mississippi Teachers to Get Debit Cards

Posted: 9:25 AM Jul 30, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

Mississippi teachers preparing their classrooms for the start of the 2012-13 school year are doing so with the knowledge that help is on the way for purchasing instructional materials.

A new Mississippi law will give teachers debit cards this fall to pay for instructional items for their classrooms.

In the past, such purchases had to meet strict bookkeeping measures.

The Commercial Appeal reports that the cards will be issued in equal amounts per teacher determined by the total number of qualifying personnel and funds available.

The cards will expire on a predetermined date at the end of each school year. All unused amounts will be carried forward and reallocated for the following year.
