Hosemann Studying Texas Voter ID Case

The Mississippi secretary of state's office is studying a court ruling that struck down the Texas voter identification law before determining if it will have any impact on Mississippi.

A Mississippi law that would require people to display a government-issued photo ID to vote is pending before the U.S. Department of Justice.

Under federal law, all changes to Mississippi election law must be approved by either the Justice Department or the District of Columbia federal court.

In Thursday's ruling, a court said the Texas law placed "strict unforgiving burdens on the poor," specifically racial minorities.
