Oil Rig Explodes in Gulf

Posted: 1:48 PM Nov 16, 2012
Reporter: The Associated Press

Four people have been hospitalized and two are believed missing after an explosion and fire on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard officials say the fire has been extinguished.

The platform owned by Black Elk Energy is about 25 miles southeast of Grand Isle, La.

The platform is a production platform, unlike the Deepwater Horizon rig, which was drilling an exploratory well in mile-deep water well to the east of Friday's reported explosion.

Officials said oil leakage was minimal.
