Authorities say more than 25 people were injured in Mississippi during the severe storms that pushed across the South on Christmas Day.

Mississippi Emergency Management spokesman Brett Carr says no fatalities have been reported in Mississippi, but dozens of structures were damaged. He says damage has been reported in 10 counties and officials continue to assess the situation.

Carr says more than 70 homes were affected, but that number could rise. He didn't know yet how many of those homes were completely destroyed and how many had lesser damage.

Carr says damage has been reported in Amite, Forrest, George, Greene, Hinds, Jones, Lawrence, Pearl River, Stone and Wilkinson counties.

The winter storm system headed for the Northeast Wednesday, spreading blizzard conditions that slowed holiday travel.
