Emergency officials have called off the search for a man who apparently drowned in the Chunky River Jan. 19.

Lauderdale Emergency Management Agency director David Sharp says the nine-day search was cancelled Monday.

All the boat landings on the Chunky have been reopened.

Underwater video equipment had been brought in to assist in the search, but nothing was found.

56-year-old Marcus Lavan Smith of Newton County went missing when he fell out of a canoe.
