Court Rules in School Board's Favor

Posted: 5:08 PM Jan 31, 2013

The Mississippi Supreme Court Thursday issued a ruling in a case that began with an alleged sexual assault at West Lauderdale High School in March 2012.

Four male students were charged with sexual battery and expelled for an assault of a female student on campus.

The Lauderdale County School Board had appealed an order of the Lauderdale County Youth Court that required two of the expelled students, both 17, to be re-enrolled a month after the incident.

The Mississippi Supreme Court found the youth court exceeded its authority. The matter was reversed and rendered back to the school board, which the supreme court said has discretion in this matter.
