Pigford Remembered During Opening of "Steel Magnolias"

A performing arts legend was honored in Meridian, just weeks after his death.

Meridian Little Theatre Director Jimmy Pigford was remembered during Thursday night's performance of Steel Magnolias.

Pigford died Feb. 4. Until his hospitalization after suffering a fall, the longtime director was working to prepare for the performance.

Locals we caught up with said they wouldn't have missed the show for anything.

"It's very sad," MLT board member Gloria Moore said. "In fact, I dreaded coming, but I knew I had to do it. It'll never be the same. Meridian won't be the same without him."

"Mr. Pigford gave so much to the schools," Mandy Goldman said. "And so much to the community and so much to everyone."

Pigford was in his 50th year as MLT director. He had planned to retire after the season.
