Charles Daniel "Dan" Shaffer, 68 of Meridian, formerly of Decatur, died Sunday, December 2, 2012.


Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. , on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Newton County Funeral Home North in Newton, with Bro. Jackie Strebeck officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 P.M. - 8 P.M. at Newton County Funeral Home North on Monday, December 3, 2012.

He enjoyed working and spending time with his grandchildren. Gardening was a favorite past time. He loved his church family at Ebenezer Baptist, where he was a faithful member as long as his health permitted.

He was preceded in death by: his parents: Rev. Dan & Mildred Golden Shaffer.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years: Hilda Wiles Shaffer; one daughter: Kim Shaffer Williams and her husband Shane; one son: Charles R. Shaffer and his wife Rebecca all of Decatur; six grandchildren: Brett Shaffer, Katie Shaffer, Brandon Williams, Reece Shaffer, Allie Williams and Gracie Williams; two sisters: Joyce Waltman and her husband Mike of Collinsville and Dianne Norman and her husband Frank of Newton; several nieces and nephews

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Richardson, Brandon Williams, Brett Shaffer, Steve Waltman, Al Waltman, Bryan Burt, and Gary Morrow.

Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 297, Newton, MS 39345

Newton County Funeral Home, 9998 Eastside Drive Ext, Newton is in charge of arrangements, 601-635-3200.
