Send Wasil “George” Horshok

Funeral services for Wasil “George” Horshok, 91, of Lisman will be held Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 11 A.M. from the Calvary Baptist Church in Butler with Rev. Scott Harrell, Rev. Franklin McLelland, & Rev. James Bonner officiating. Burial will follow in the Butler City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 3, 2012 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Bumpers Funeral Home and from 10 until 11 at the church on Wednesday.

Mr. Horshok passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at his residence. He was a retired Millwright from Georgia Pacific in Pennington. He was also a U.S. Army Air Corp. WWII Veteran.

George loved to garden and was known for his fruit trees, flowers, and tomatoes. A lover of God’s outdoors, he was an avid turkey hunter who enjoyed the competition between himself and “Old Tom” more than bringing it home. George was a humble servant of God and was a former deacon and Sunday School Teacher at Calvary Baptist Church. He was a brother in Christ to all and never missed an opportunity to share a “mini sermon.” George had a natural hunger for learning and what he couldn’t find from books or the Bible, he would question, but today he knows all the answers.

Survivors include his wife Una Horshok of Lisman; daughter Avis Irvin of Nanafalia, AL; sons Greg Horshok of Ocean Springs, MS; Michael Horshok of Tuscaloosa, AL; Richard Horshok of Jackson, AL; Steve Horshok of Butler, AL; David Gardner of Birmingham, AL; 8 grandchildren Lee Irvin, Justin Irvin, Jennifer Thompson, Liana Horshok, Joshua Horshok, Amelia Horshok, Sommer Horshok, Savannah “Little Bit” Horshok and 6 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Greg Horshok, Mike Horshok, Richard Horshok, Steve Horshok, Joshua Horshok, Lee Irvin
