Leroy Jackson

Funeral Services for Leroy Jackson will be held Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church with Pastor John Temple and Pastor Emeritus James Ruffin . Burial will be in Meridian Memorial Park Cemetery with Berry & Gardner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

For 89 years, Leroy blessed many with his contagious smile and warm hospitality. Leroy was born in Lauderdale County on September 30, 1923. Leroy died November 12, 2012 at Poplar Springs Nursing Home where he had been a resident since 2005.

Leroy was a member of Galilee Baptist Church, but was best known as the custodian of Poplar Springs Drive Baptist Church for 54 years. He was a very dedicated servant. Much of his ministry was subtle, yet intentional, resulting in impressionable memories. One of these memories was that many nights, Leroy spent the entire night in the church to assure that heat was on and the church was ready when church members arrived. Another of the impressionable memories was an inspiring creation of the symbol of the cross, formed by using the window shutters, welcoming worshippers as they entered the sanctuary on Sundays. His positive attitude and faithful service was a lasting inspiration to the church family he served.

Leroy is survived by one son, Harry Nelson of Jackson, MS and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Velma Jackson and four brothers, Ernest, Charles (Jimmy), Rudolph and John Henry Jackson.

Body will be in the church one hour prior to services.
