Fourteen college rodeo teams and over 300 wranglers, riders and ropers will converge on the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex on the University of West Alabama campus Oct. 11-13 for the annual UWA Rodeo Showdown.
The show begins every night at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and free for UWA students. To purchase tickets please contact the UWA Athletic Department at 205-652-3784 or UWA Rodeo at 205-652-3695.
“This is something we look forward to every year,” UWA Rodeo coach Chad Phipps said. “This is not only a chance for UWA Wranglers to shine, but a great opportunity to showcase our campus and community.
“It means the world to have big crowds out there supporting the competitors every night,” Phipps said. “In addition to a great rodeo, we believe this is great family fun event.”
Scheduled competition events include bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping and barrel racing. Local physician, Dr. Archie Hooper, will be one of two clowns working the event. Hooper will share the duties with professional clown Greek Ellick on Thursday and Friday.
On Friday, Oct. 12, a $10 ticket entitles fans a BBQ plate and free admission to the rodeo. BBQ will be served from 5-7 p.m., with the rodeo beginning at 7:30 p.m. To-go plates are also available.
