Reporter: The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) -- San Francisco is headed to the Super Bowl. The 49ers roared back from a quick 17-0 deficit in Atlanta to beat the Falcons in the NFC championship game, 28-24.

The second half belonged to the Niners as they outscored the Falcons 14-0.

Frank Gore's 9-yard run midway through the fourth quarter gave San Francisco the 28-24 it held onto the rest of the way. Gore finished the game with two touchdown runs.

Matt Ryan of the Falcons connected on three touchdown passes in the losing effort.

The Niners will now face the winner of the AFC Championship game between the Ravens and Patriots in two weeks in New Orleans.

This will be San Francisco's sixth appearance in the Super Bowl. The previous five appearances all resulted in wins.

The Niners will be trying to join Pittsburgh as the only teams with six Super Bowl championships.
