Philadelphia and West Lauderdale Soccer Teams Fall in State Finals
Posted: 12:18 PM Feb 4, 2013

Neither the West Lauderdale boys nor girls soccer squads could bring a championship to Collinsville, MS.

Pontotoc defeated the boys 6-2 on the fields of Clinton high school in Clinton, MS. Caleb Carpenter and Chris Mallette each put in a goal for the Knights who will lose a large group of seniors to graduation.

The West Lauderdale girls couldn't score in a 2-0 loss to Florence. Lindy Tabor put the Lady Eagles up 1-0 with a goal from over thirty yards out.

Head coach Alex George and the Knights will have to wait until next year to grab the school's first ever girls soccer state title.

"Two seniors... we're going to miss them," said George. "But the fact that we have a lot of youth on our side, now a little experience, a little taste of what it feels like... I think it's going to give us great momentum going into next season."

George will only lose seniors Kaylyn and Meagan Stewart, twin sisters who will play for Meridian Community College next Fall.

In the boys 4A title game, Philadelphia lost 8-0 in a rematch with Sacred Heart Catholic School out of Hattiesburg, MS. The Crusaders defeated the Tornadoes in last year's state championship 4-3. Philadelphia trailed 0-4 at half-time.
