Former Army QB, Jackson Native Doug Kenna Dies at 88

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Doug Kenna, quarterback of West Point's 1944 undefeated national championship team and former president of the National Association of Manufacturers, has died. He was 88.

Kenna died Jan. 28 in North Palm Beach, Fla., according to Nicholas Hollis, a longtime friend.

He will be buried Monday in Jackson, Miss., where he was born. A memorial service is May 13 at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

In addition to starting at QB, Kenna was captain of Army' one-loss basketball team and undefeated tennis team. He was also Senior Class President.

He played one season at the University of Mississippi before being recruited to West Point. He was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Kenna went on to a successful business career as an executive for a number of companies. He was head of the manufacturers association in the 1970s.
