HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) -- Southern Miss football coach Ellis Johnson has hired Garret Chachere to fill the vacant assistant coach position on his staff. The Hattiesburg American reports (http://hatne.ws/KnAHjT ) Chachere, a New Orleans native, will lead the tight ends and special teams following the departure of Joe Judge, who was recently hired by the New England Patriots. Chachere comes to Hattiesburg after a three-year with the University of Arizona where he coached the inside receivers, including David Douglas, who was second on the Wildcats' roster with 666 yards in 2011, and David Roberts, whose 413 yards were fifth-best on the squad.
