NBA FINALS Heat on the verge MIAMI (AP) -- Most every night in Miami is a party, but tonight's festivities might be championship caliber. LeBron James, Dwyane (dwayn Wade) and Chris Bosh lead Miami into Game 5 of the finals against the Thunder this evening holding a 3-1 advantage in the best-of-seven showdown. After dropping the opener in Oklahoma City, the Heat has ripped off three straight victories. No NBA team has overcome a 3-1 deficit in the finals, but the Thunder already wiped out one big hole just one round ago in the Western Conference finals. They trailed San Antonio 2-0 before bouncing back to win the series.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL BCS on its deathbed CHICAGO (AP) -- Finally, the people in charge agree with the people in the stands. A major college football playoff is closer than ever to becoming a reality. The BCS commissioners have backed a plan for a four-team playoff with the sites for the national semifinals rotating among the major bowl games and a selection committee picking the participants. The plan will be presented to university presidents next week for approval. Once the presidents sign off, and that seems likely, major college football's champion will be decided by a playoff for the first time, starting in 2014.
