The former world No. 1 ended a two-year Grand Slam title drought by beating third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH'-kuh rahd-VAHN'-skuh) 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in the Wimbledon final. It's the 30-year-old American's 14th major championship. Williams, who spent the past couple of years battling illness and injury, served up 17 aces, running her Wimbledon-record total to 102 for the tournament. Thirty-year-old Williams is the first woman in her 30s to win a Wimbledon title since Martina Navratilova, who won at the All England Club in 1990 when she was 33.
TENNIS-WOMEN'S NO. 1 New No. 1 WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH'-kuh rahd-VAHN'-skuh) will move up to No. 2 in the rankings following her runner-up showing at Wimbledon. The pole would have vaulted to No. 1 had she claimed the title at the All England Club. Radwanska's loss to Serena Williams in the final opens the door for Victoria Azarenka (ah-zah-REN'-kuh) to regain the No. 1 ranking from Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH'-vah). The Russian replaced Azarenka at the top of the rankings last month, after winning the French Open.
WIMBLEDON-MEN'S FINAL Murray in the pressure cooker WIMBLEDON, England (AP) -- Andy Murray better be ready for some heavy lifting. He's got the weight of a nation on his shoulders entering Sunday's Wimbledon men's final against six-time champion Roger Federer. The fourth-seeded Scotsman is the first British man to play in the final at the All England Club since Bunny Austin in 1938. Now Murray will attempt to become the first British man to claim the title since Fred Perry in 1936.
MLB-SCHEDULE Bronx Bombers blast Boston UNDATED (AP) -- Andruw Jones followed Nick Swisher's three-run home run with a solo shot in a four-run first inning, and the visiting Yankees cruised to a 6-1 victory over Boston in the opener of a day-night doubleheader. Jones added another solo shot in the fourth inning that was followed immediately by a Jayson Nix home run. New York ran its baseball-best home run total to 130 and is on a pace for a club-record 254. The 1997 Seattle Mariners hold the major league record with 264. The Red Sox will be looking to end a five-game losing streak when they take the field for the nightcap. NFL-VIKINGS-PETERSON ARRESTED Peterson locked up HOUSTON (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson has been arrested in Houston on a charge of resisting arrest. Peterson is from Palestine, Texas. He remains in a Houston jail on a $1,000 bond, according to information on the Houston Police Department website. Team spokesman Bob Hagan says the Vikings "are aware of the situation and are gathering more information." No further details are available yet.
NBA-TRAIL BLAZERS-PRESIDENT RESIGNS Miller moving on, but not far PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Larry Miller has resigned as president of the Portland Trail Blazers. The team says he is leaving to take a position with another Portland-area business. Miller was president of the Blazers the past five years. He helped oversee the team's hiring of Neil Olshey as general manager early last month. During Miller's tenure, the Blazers returned to the postseason for the first time in six seasons, making three straight trips to the playoffs from 2009-2011. Portland was 28-38 last season and missed the playoffs.

Holmes is a stroke back with four holes to play.

INDYCAR-TORONTO Consistent qualifier Franchitti hoping for better race result TORONTO (AP) -- Dario Franchitti (DAH'-ree-oh fran-KEE'-tee) had the fastest car in qualifying and will be on the pole for Sunday's IndyCar race at Toronto. The defending champion was 0.24 seconds ahead of series points leader Will Power, who will join him on the front row. It's Franchitti's third straight pole. His engine failed before the start of the race in Iowa two weeks ago. And contact forced him to a 19th-place finish at Milwaukee the previous week.

FORMULA ONE-BRITISH GP QUALIFYING Alonso grabs pole SILVERSTONE, England (AP) -- Formula One leader Fernando Alonso put Ferrari on pole for the first time in 31 races after mastering the rain-soaked track in a disrupted qualifying session for the British Grand Prix. The reigning race champion was just 0.047 seconds faster than Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who will start Sunday's race alongside him on the front row and is his closest competitor in the championship.
TOUR DE FRANCE New man in yellow LA PLANCHE DES BELLES FILLES SKI STATION, France (AP) -- Bradley Wiggins of Britain has taken the overall lead of the Tour de France after the seventh stage. Fellow British rider Cristopher Froome won the first summit finish this year. Wiggins received the leader's yellow jersey from Fabian Cancellara (FAH'-bee-un kahn-cheh-LAH'-rah). The Swiss time-trial specialist had led since winning the opening prologue a week ago. Wiggins began the day seven seconds behind Cancellara in second place. Now, he leads defending champion Cadel (kuh-DEHL') Evans of Australia by 10 seconds.
