Saturday 1/12 Forecast Discussion

Reporter: Jeff Burrowes

We took a much needed break from the rain today, as temperatures rose into the mid 70s with a few peaks of sunshine. Unfortunately, rain and thunderstorms are coming back into the forecast beginning tomorrow, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. A cold front associated with a powerful storm system currently over Arkansas will work its way across the area, and heavy rain with some flash flooding and strong thunderstorms. This cold front will actually cool us down (the last couple of them haven't), and we'll return to seasonable (if not a touch cooler) temperatures. An upper level disturbance will stall over the Southwest US and send pulses of energy over us Monday and Tuesday, keeping a good chance of rain in the forecast. Right now I won't mention a wintry mix in the forecast, but as we get closer to Monday night, there's a very slight chance some us could see a little (emphasize little) sleet or snow flurries. We stay seaonsable for the rest of the week with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s, and skies going from mostly cloudy to sunny by Friday. We'll keep you updated about the storms for tomorrow on TV and the Web. Enjoy the spring-like day today!
