Butler, Ala. Kids involved in 4-H in west Alabama have quite a challenge ahead of them.
Sumter and Choctaw counties received 1-day-old chicks to raise for the next five months.
Regional agent, David Perry, says 43 young people from seven counties will participate in raising healthy hens and roosters.
"It's not like a beef cow, where you have to have a large space," said Perry. "But they can raise chicks in a small space and still get the same effect."
When the chicks are grown, the top three will be chosen to compete in a regional 4-H livestock show.
