Friday evening the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department responded to an accident at 1069 Byrd Doerner Road.

Authorities say a teenager behind the wheel of a pick up truck ran straight into a house causing significant damage. The driver was taken to a Meridian hospital with non life threatening injuries. He was talking to responders at the scene.

Authorities aren't releasing the name of the driver because of his age. No charges have been filed, but the investigation will continue. Witnesses say the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed. It happened Friday around 5:30 p.m.

I know what this family is going through. My house was struck Sept. 29, 08. It still haunts me to this day. Justice was not served. Today we had our day in court. We were able to tell our side of the story. Of course it didn't help, but at least this guy had to look us in the face. I really hope this is the closure we needed to move on. Good luck to this family. I hope you do not have to face all the drama we had.

sI see that an investigation is ongoing in this accident where a teenage driver ran straight into a house. I had an experience today where I was passed on a county road after pulling out from a gas station (Double Line - In a curve). When the residents of this county don't even feel safe in their own houses, much less as drivers on the roads of Lauderdale County, what can be done? This is not the first experience I have had with reckless driving in the county. Another incident happened on West Lauderdale Road. I was passed in a curve on my way to my child's ball game, and the teenage driver of that vehicle pulled into the ball field and parked (She saved maybe ten seconds by passing me illegally with double lines in a curve). Perhaps the citizens of this county could benefit from remembering the consequences of such driving. It appears that the deaths of teenagers driving recklessly in recent years within the county did not have much of an impact. That is sad to see.
