The York, Alabama, branch of Regions Bank has teamed up with the Sumter County Board of Education to get "Tools for Schools".
It's collecting supplies like paper, notebooks, and pencils through Friday. The items will be distributed in classrooms during the new school year.
Rachel Roberts, the York Regions Branch Mgr., said, "Each year we try to do some partnership with the schools in Sumter County in order to help the students and educators with the supplies that they need."
"We need all the supplies that we possibly can for our students, for our teachers. Whether the public is aware or not, our school has been in pro-ration for the past year or so and all the supplies that the public can donate to our school will help us tremendously,” said Herman Wallace, principal of York West End.
Some estimates put the cost of start-up school supplies per child at $35 to $50. Regions said if the community responds, it will continue accepting supplies up until the start of school.
There will be a back-to school bask Friday night in Livingston, also with the goal of collecting school supplies.
There will be a gospel music concert at the Livingston High School Auditorium Friday from 6-8 p.m. The cost of admission is a donation of school supplies. The Harmonic Brothers of Sumter County will perform. The Rev. Demetrius Foy will have an inspirational message.
