Three candidates are in the special election for Alabama House District 65. It includes Choctaw, Washington, and Clarke counties.

Chatom pharmacist Elaine Beech and Jackson pharmacist Ozelle L. Hubert are the two Democrats in the race. The primary is Sept. 15.

Only one republican qualified. Retired insurance agent and educator Jerry Reed will meet the winner of the Democratic primary in the general election Nov. 3.

The winner will replace Democrat Marc Keahey of Grove Hill, who gave up the seat when he was elected to the state Senate in June.
