Death row inmate Max Landon Payne is scheduled to die by lethal injection for the 1992 kidnapping, robbery and murder of a Cullman County store owner.
The 38-year-old Payne is to die at 6 p.m. Thursday in the execution chamber at Holman Prison in Atmore.
Payne was convicted of kidnapping Braxton Brown from his store and shooting him in the face at close range with a shotgun. Payne's body was dumped into Crooked Creek near the West Point community in northwest Cullman County.
Payne was moved into a holding cell near the execution chamber Tuesday and spent Wednesday visiting with a dozen friends and relatives. He is scheduled to be the sixth person executed in Alabama this year.
