The wet weather that has come to Mississippi and Alabama in recent weeks has created plenty of planning problems for high school football teams.
Coach Jud Gartman at Clarkdale Attendance Center said the muddy field conditions have been difficult on his players.
Instead of running the ball, players have been fighting to keep from slipping.
And with more rain planned for Friday, school officials says they are hoping the rain holds out until homecoming festivities are finished.
"If the field was real dry to start with, it would be O.K. But it is soaked now. It just sits there and it is actually starting to stink a bit," said Gartman.
Along with wet football fields, many downtown Meridian streets have been prone to flash flooding. These conditions are a part of El Nino conditions.
