MERIDIAN --- Wednesday night a high profile college football coach helped the East Mississippi chapter of the Boys and Girls Club raise much needed fund.

University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban was the keynote speaker at the Boys and Girls Club Celebration of Excellence Dinner.

Organizers say over one thousand people attended the dinner, and East Mississippi chapter chairman Clay Holladay says the event was a big success for the club.

"Tonight we had a big bump we had over 1,000 people 1,020 people attended the dinner. Our biggest turnout before that had been 850 so it was a big jump for us and the money was needed because as we all know state budgets have been cut and we have been cut this year, and so this is helping us get over that cut."

Saban also spoke at this dinner in 2008, the summer after Saban's first season with Alabama.

It's always great to see the Crimson Tide's national championship coach make an appearance in the Queen City. I know that it makes a big impact on the children that are served by the Boys and Girls Club. Roll Tide Roll!!!
