The Internal Revenue Service says 4,500 small nonprofit organizations in Alabama are at risk of losing their tax-exempt status because they haven't filed returns for the last three years.
The IRS says the organizations can preserve their tax-exempt status by filing their returns by Oct. 15 under a one-time relief program.
The 4,500 organizations and their last known addresses in Alabama are listed on the IRS website. A link is provided below. They include fraternal, social and civic organizations.
