More than a dozen puppies found abandoned in Newton County last week are finding permanent homes.

The Cleveland family was caring for 13 newborn puppies found in a ditch along the side of the road early last week.

After their story was featured on Newscenter 11 last Friday, the Clevelands say they fielded call after call offering help.

Now, all but three of the dogs have been taken in by other owners.

"There was just calls right after [the story aired] for at least two or three hours," says Carolyn Cleveland, whose daughter, Lisa, found the dogs last week.

The Clevelands have been in touch with the Newton County Sheriff's Department to try and find out where the dogs were before being abandoned.

May GOD bless this caring woman and all the people who reached out and gave these little babies a home. Shame on the cruel hearted, ignorant owner of the mother dog, who left these poor creatures alone to die. "If you have men who will exclude any of GOD's creatures from the compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." St. Francis of Assisi
