Montgomery, Ala.

State officials say a southwest Alabama dentist is facing Medicaid fraud charges.

Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange said Dr. William Britt Morris turned himself in Thursday to Montgomery County authorities and was released on $30,000 bond.

The attorney general's Medicaid fraud control unit presented evidence to a Montgomery County grand jury, resulting in a 59-count indictment June 13.

The charges allege that Morris acted with his partner, Dr. Jimmy C. White, to defraud the Alabama Medicaid Agency of about $500,000.

Strange said White has pleaded guilty to one count of attempted Medicaid fraud as part of a plea agreement. He's expected to serve a year of probation and must repay $36,813.

Prosecutors said the dentists have offices in Butler and Grove Hill. It wasn't known Thursday whether they have attorneys.
