Jackson, Miss. Universal Pictures is having an open casting call Oct. 5 in Jackson for actors, musicians and extras for "Get On Up", a movie about the life of singer James Brown, portrayed by Chadwick Boseman.
Men, women and children of all ethnicities and ages are being sought, along with black musicians ages 20 to 35 with experience playing the trumpet, saxophone, guitar, bass, trombone and/or drums. There is also a need for black male twins, ages 5 to 8.
The film is set from the 1930s to the 1990s, so period hairstyles are a plus. Arrive in your “Sunday Best” or wearing an outfit from one of these time periods, with
your hair styled to its real, natural length. Please, no wigs. If you currently shave your head, allow your hair to begin to grow before the casting call.
The auditions are being held at the Mississippi Department of Education, 359 North West Street in Jackson, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Bring a current, non-returnable photo that shows your natural hair length.

Based on the life story of the Godfather of Soul, the film will give a look inside the music, moves and moods of Brown, taking audiences on the journey from his impoverished childhood to his evolution into an influential and successful artist.
"Get On Up" is tentatively slated for theatrical release Oct. 17, 2014.
