Celebrating Tourism Week

Cuba, Ala.

Alabama's welcome centers are marking National Tourism Week by celebrating all the state has to offer.

The Cuba Welcome Center hosted a program and invited elected officials to speak. This was coupled with music from students from Sumter and Greene counties.

The theme is "Alabama Road Trips". Welcome center officials say there's a lot to see in Alabama.

"It's good for the economic growth," said welcome center manager, Jerry Hale. "A lot of jobs depend on tourism. Your hotels. Your restaurants. All of your businesses depend on the tax dollars that come from tourism, people spending money in Alabama."

According to the U.S. Travel Association, spending by travelers nationwide generates $124 billion in direct tax revenue to government.
