A West Alabama citizens group says a new resolution will prompt more people to run for office.
The Concerned Citizens committee in Choctaw County is in favor of a resolution that was passed by Choctaw County commissioners this past Tuesday. It would allow voters to decide whether the county should keep its current district system or change to a unit system. Members say the move will decrease the work load of county commissioners.
"And so I think that you'll get a lot more people who have more business and accounting backgrounds that will want to run for office," Kim Edwards says.
If approved by the legislature, this measure is expected to appear on the ballot in Choctaw County next June.
