Scheduled maintenance at Bonita Lakes has closed the park until Tuesday.
The Mississippi Forestry Commission is overseeing the burn of about 900 acres, which it actually calls a prescribed burn, because it has the purpose of
removing fuel for wildfires, such as undergrowth, twigs, pine cones and needles. And it will help bring back grasses and edible plants for wildlife.
All areas of Bonita Lakes will be closed all day Monday. It will reopen Tuesday morning.
The burn has created a haze around the city, along with the smell of smoke.
