Despite Supreme Court, No Quick Ruling for Alabama

Gov. Robert Bentley says his office is analyzing the Supreme Court's decision on Arizona's law on illegal
immigration to see what impact it will have on a similar law in Alabama.

Bentley says the two laws aren't identical, and the core of the Arizona law remains in place.

Bentley says the ruling upholds the ideas that states can determine how to enforce their laws.

The Supreme Court struck down parts of the Arizona law, but it cleared the way for a provision that lets police check the immigration status of people they encounter.

Alabama is the only state where such a section already has taken effect.

Mary Bauer of the Southern Poverty Law Center says it could be months before an appeals court decides the constitutionality of Alabama's law.
