Alabama's entire congressional delegation sent a letter to President Obama supporting Gov. Robert Bentley's request for a disaster declaration.
Delegation members say the tornadoes and high winds Jan. 22-23 hit some of the same areas that were affected by tornadoes in April 2011.
President Obama signed the declaration Wednesday afternoon, ordering federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts.
The declaration makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Chilton and Jefferson counties.
Assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
