Meridian Naval Air Station will observe the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway by hosting a commemoration and wreath laying ceremony.
The Battle of Midway occurred June 4-7, 1942, and changed the tide of World War II in the Pacific and the course of world history. It shifted the balance of sea power in the Pacific from Japan to parity between the U.S. and Japan.
Battle of Midway survivor, George Gianakos, will be in attendance, and his son will share Gianakos' experiences.
Members of the Navy League, Marine Corps League, VFW, American Legion, and their auxiliaries are invited to attend the 70th Anniversary of the Battle of Midway Commemoration and Wreath Laying Ceremony on board NAS Meridian, June 4, beginning at 9 a.m.
