Pipeline Work Scheduled

Plantation Pipeline will perform maintenance work on its 30" gasoline pipeline at Highway 493 and Oak Hill Baptist Church in Meridian Tuesday and Wednesday.

Officials say the work will consist of displacing 19.4 miles of the line with nitrogen to remove all flammable vapors from the line for necessary line repairs.

The nitrogen will then be released into the atmosphere.

When the nitrogen is released, it will cause a very loud noise, like the sound of several jet engines taking off.

The 'blow down', as it is called, will take several hours to complete and will be finished in the early morning hours Wednesday, possibly as early as
2 a.m.
