'Stamp Out Hunger' Drive Called Success

The 2012 Letter Carriers Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive more than doubled the amount of items ever collected for the area, according to coordinator Mike Lundstrom.

Lundstrom said the tabulation is still unfinished but
at least 55,215 pounds of food were collected by letter carriers Saturday.

Residents filled bags that were delivered in advance and then left them by their mail boxes.

Lundstrom said the bags were apparently the reminders residents needed and worked better than the cards that were used previously to inform the public.

Lundstrom said the postal employees, food bank workers and volunteers were all in a state of disbelief because of the amount of food collected.
