It apparently started after police tried to apprehend a man in the Needham area.
The man instead began firing shots. Newscenter 11 was told by a reliable source as many as ten shots were fired at authorities. No officers were reported hurt.
We have been unable to reach authorities who are participating in the standoff. But Tommy Campbell, with the Choctaw Sun Advocate, shared the information he has collected.
According to Campbell, the incident started when a Needham man allegedly broke into another man's house. When the homeowner returned home and frightened the intruder, the intruder hit the homeowner with a tire tool.
At this point, the intruder took a high powered rifle from the house and then returned to his house, which is on County Road Nine, just west of the Needham Fire Department.
As of 9:30 Friday night, the man was still in his home. The property was surrounded by authorities who had traveled to the scene from across the state of Alabama.
