Livingston, Ala. University of West Alabama's Alumni Association is concerned that the university's president could soon lose his job.

A consultant issued by the Board of Trustees released a presidential evaluation for Dr. Richard Holland with many negative reports. And vice president of Institutional Advancement Clemit Spruiell has accused Dr. Holland of excluding members of the administration from various meetings. Dr. Holland released a detailed response to each of Sprueill's accusations. As well as a critique of his performance evaluation, neither Sprueill, nor Dr. Holland were in office for comment on these issues. Now, many are speaking out on his behalf.

"All I can say is that the work speaks for itself, and we have engaged in more positive outreach projects to help not only the people in Sumter County, but all over the black belt region of Alabama and Mississippi."

Only the Board of Trustees can renew his contract, but Alumni Association President Emeritus Mike Holliman says he believes the board will fire Dr. Holland for refusing to look the other way while board members commit violations against UWA's accreditation standards

Dr. Holland's contract expires at the end of this fiscal year, but he says if the board renews his contract, he plans to retire in 2016.

"Dr. Holland would like an additional two years. There are numerous construction projects all over campus underway. There are numerous workforce economic community and outreach projects. The administration would simply like to have the opportunity to see those through to their fruition."

The board's quarterly meeting with will be held at UWA on Monday at 2 p.m. That is when the board will hold its official vote on whether to renew the president's contract.
