The University of West Alabama celebrated creation of the Alabama Plant Atlas, and the role one of its professors played in the accomplishment.
The Alabama Plant Atlas is a joint effort by the Alabama Herbarium Consortium and the University of West Alabama.
UWA's own, Dr. Brian Keener, coordinated the website, floraofalabama.org. Users now have a comprehensive, search-able database of plants that grow in Alabama.
"Within that database, all the species of plants that occur in Alabama, naturally or non-native plants, can be found and searched for by professionals and laymen alike," said Keener. "It's an excellent resource for the plants of our state."
The compilation of all this information began in 2001. Work on the Internet version began in 2008.
