Tuscaloosa, Ala. The West Alabama Food Bank is getting some big financial help to pay for upgrades to a larger building the charity moved into three years ago.

The Tuscaloosa News reports Alabama Power presented the food bank last week with a $30,000 grant. The money will pay for sealing the food bank's perimeter to control pests, replacing old doors and making other upgrades to stay in compliance with the building standards of its national parent network.

The food bank moved in 2011 from its Tuscaloosa building to a new space nearly four times larger in Northport. The charity expects to distribute more than 3 million pounds of food this year.

Henry Lipsey, director of the West Alabama Food Bank, says the money lets the charity "sustain what we're doing now."
