It has been three months since a devastating tornado ripped apart property in the small town of Geiger, Ala.

Full recovery from that whopping blow is expected to take at least two to three years. In the wake of the tragedy, an agency set up to help those victims and others from surrounding areas, is feeling the strain.

Operation Homecare in York says it's continuing to meet the needs of storm victims in Sumter, Choctaw, Greene and Tuscaloosa counties.

Although some donated items are available, agency officials say it's becoming more difficult to get them.

"We have to go to Birmingham or Tuscaloosa. We have to use our own vehicles and we have to use our own gas and we don't have any money coming in," said Brooks. "Every time we go to Birmingham, it costs $200 to $300 and we go once or twice a week trying to get supplies."

As many storm victims move into homes, Brooks says there is a need for mattresses.

Operation Homecare is a non-profit agency with a total of three workers.

Anyone interested in donating may call (205) 392-9292.
